Hi Puma Families,
We hope you had a wonderful summer! We loved having your child as part of Puma Run Club last year, and we’re so excited to invite you back for another year of fun, fitness, and healthy habits. 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Every Friday morning at 7:15am, our Pumas come together to run, play active games, share nutrition tips, and start the day full of energy and smiles. Practices are free for all Cadence Park students K–8, and we’d love to see your runner back with us this year!
Mark your calendars: practices will be on 10/17, 10/23, and 10/30 and then every Friday thereafter!
👉 To join, please fill out this year’s Puma Run Club Interest Form here: Click to Sign Up
We’ll also have two optional races during the year for kids who want an extra challenge, but mostly we’re here to make running fun, engaging, and part of a healthy lifestyle. The races this year are Dec 20th and May 2nd.
We can’t wait to see our returning Pumas (and some new ones too!) out on the track. Thanks for being such an important part of our Run Club family. 💙
The second year of our Science Olympiad program will be kicking off this month for our Cadence Park 4th - 6th graders!
What is the Science Olympiad program? Science Olympiad is an academic competition where students select events – such as anatomy, astronomy, egg parachute drop, and tower building – to study and compete in. Participants will gain a stronger understanding of science, build lasting relationships, develop a solid work ethic, and create memorable experiences. Please visit our website here for more information, including a FAQ section and links to all of our resources, documents, and forms.
How can my student join? Interested students should register here (or using the QR code above) for tryouts, which will be held on Tuesday, October 28 from 4:30 - 5:30 pm in the STEAM Lab. Please register by October 24.
What can my student expect at tryouts and during the season? Tryouts will last approximately 50 minutes and will consist of multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Studying beforehand is recommended to increase students’ chances of being selected. Helpful resources can be found here.
Approximately 30 students will be chosen for the Science Olympiad team. Practices will be held once a week for 90 minutes, and the students will compete in at least three invitational tournaments, which are typically held on a Saturday in February, March, and May. Regular attendance at practice, and attendance at all invitationals, is required,
Have more questions? Please be on the lookout for a parent information session in the next few weeks. You can also email us at cadenceparkscioly@gmail.com
What is MATHCOUNTS?
MATHCOUNTS is a national middle school math enrichment and competition program designed to teach critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence in mathematics. Students can expect to tackle fun, challenging problems while preparing for contests at the chapter, state, and national levels. More information about MATHCOUNTS can be found here: http://mathcounts.org/
How can I join? All 6-8th-grade students are welcome to try out!

What to Expect!
During practices, students work individually and in teams on challenging math problems. We will mostly teach according to the structure of the official MATHCOUNTS competition:
-
Sprint Round: 30 quick problems to test speed and accuracy
-
Target Round: more complicated problems that reward careful solving
-
Team Round (the most fun!): groups of four collaborate on challenging problems
-
Countdown Round: two students race to answer the same question first
We use practice sets, group activities, and review sessions to help students improve and get ready for competition day. Whether you want to learn math skills or compete at a high level, there’s a place for everybody!
Why join?
MATHCOUNTS provides students with an opportunity to strengthen their mathematical problem-solving skills in a supportive and challenging environment. Participation fosters academic growth, confidence, and discipline, while also allowing students to represent their school in a nationally recognized program.
Just as importantly, MATHCOUNTS creates a space for students to connect and enjoy competing together as part of a close-knit community.

This year, Cadence Park will join schools across Irvine Unified in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, October 23–31, 2025. The district-wide theme is “Life is a Puzzle: Solve it with Healthy Choices.” Just like pieces of a puzzle, the choices we make each day connect to form the bigger picture of our health and future.
Red Ribbon Week encourages students, families, and the community to come together in fostering safe and healthy lifestyles, while building the skills and habits needed to make positive choices.
Throughout the week, our school will host activities that align with this theme, empowering our Pumas to recognize how their actions fit into the larger picture of living drug-free and thriving.
Want to get more involved this year? We’ve got a few open roles — and we’d love to have you on the team! Whether you’re great at planning, love a good celebration, or just want to help make school more meaningful for our kids, there’s a place for you here.
