Each year, Cadence Park School and IUSD gather input from families through their Annual Survey. This feedback plays a vital role in shaping next year’s budgets, programs, and priorities—both at the school and district levels.

Right now, IUSD is also developing its next LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan), which guides how the district allocates funding to meet academic, social-emotional, and community goals. Parent feedback is a key part of this process, and they rely heavily on insights gathered from both the Annual Survey and the Thought Exchange Forum.

📝 The Annual Survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

💬 The Thought Exchange Forum allows you to share anonymous comments and rate the comments of others. Every comment is read and considered—your voice truly matters.

📌 Helpful Tip: Keep each comment in the Thought Exchange to a single idea. This helps IUSD sort and categorize feedback accurately behind the scenes.

If you’ve ever wanted to shape how our schools operate or where resources go, this is your moment to speak up.

📊 Want to understand more about how IUSD’s LCAP process works?

Check out this helpful overview: LCAP Presentation

Let’s make sure our school and district reflect the values and needs of our families—one voice at a time. 💙

On Wednesday, January 28th, we hosted the first session of our Kindness on Campus Parent Engagement Series: Mental Health on Campus.

Led by our incredible school counselors, Ms. Shiva and Ms. Symes, alongside Principal Grasso, the evening offered a thoughtful look into how Cadence Park supports student mental health. They shared key data, highlighted common challenges our students are navigating, and outlined the wide range of resources available to both students and families.

Parents gained practical insights into how to connect with the counseling team, what to expect from on-campus supports, and how to partner with staff to nurture their child’s well-being. A meaningful Q&A wrapped up the evening, giving families the opportunity to ask heartfelt questions in a supportive space.

Couldn’t make it in person? We’ve got you covered.

You can access the recording, slides, and additional resources from the event on our PTSA Parent Engagement webpage.

Special thanks to our Pumas Care Chairs, Anita Bhat and Angelina Schneider, for organizing this powerful evening. 💙

📌 Don’t miss Part 2 of the series, focused on empathy and behavior support—details below!

Join us for the second session in our Kindness on Campus Parent Engagement Series, where we’ll dive into some of the key behavioral trends we’re seeing at Cadence Park—and how we can work together to build a culture of empathy, accountability, and connection.

Principal Grasso and Assistant Principal Harvey will lead an engaging conversation covering:

  • Current behavior trends observed on campus
  • How staff respond to and support students through behavioral challenges
  • Strategies the school uses to promote positive conduct
  • How families can support their children in navigating peer dynamics with empathy and resilience

This is a valuable opportunity for parents to hear directly from school leadership and participate in a collaborative, open forum discussion about how we can work together to reinforce desired behavior—at school and at home.

After weeks of focused preparation, 12 students proudly represented Cadence Park School’s inaugural MathCounts team at the regional qualifying competition on Saturday, January 31—and they made quite the entrance!

Our team earned an impressive 7th place out of 68 teams representing 30 different schools. Special recognition goes to Sebastian (Sebby) Sachelarie-Sandhu, who represented Cadence Park in the exciting Countdown Round, a lightning-fast, head-to-head challenge featuring the top individual scorers. Sebby placed 7th overall out of more than 200 students. Incredible work, Sebby!

At the event, our students competed in four rigorous rounds:

Sprint Round – Speed and accuracy were key as students tackled 30 problems in 40 minutes without a calculator.

Target Round – Emphasizing problem-solving and reasoning, this round allowed calculators and featured four pairs of problems with six minutes per pair.

Team Round – Collaboration took center stage as teams of four worked together to solve 10 problems in just 20 minutes.

Countdown Round – A fast-paced, buzzer-style round where top individual scorers competed head-to-head, answering questions in 45 seconds or less without calculators.

👏 A huge thank you to our MathCounts Chair Lucy Lu and our coaches Max SachelarieRyan Lu, and Akilesh Kuppili for their leadership and commitment to our students.

We’re so proud of this team’s hard work, strong showing, and trailblazing spirit in their very first year. Way to go, Pumas!

Our Cadence Park Pumas showed up in a big way at Winter Bowl, and we couldn’t be prouder of our athletes, coaches, and families. Across every division, our students played with heart, grit, teamwork, and true Puma pride—representing our school beautifully on and off the field.

We’re especially excited to celebrate:

🎉 Two teams advanced to the semi-finals

  • 4th Grade Boys
  • 6th Grade Boys

🏆 Two teams battled all the way to become CHAMPIONS in their divisions

  • 3rd/4th Grade Girls
  • 7th Grade Boys

But no matter the outcome, every team demonstrated sportsmanship, resilience, and a commitment to doing their best. These experiences—working together, supporting teammates, and learning through competition—are what youth sports are all about.

A huge thank you to our Athletics Director, Darius Burton, for leading our program, and to our incredible volunteer coaches who made this season possible: Jon & Cassie Holzhauer, Mike & Lisa Duncan, Shannon Petluck, Shaily Gupta, Jason Tedesco, Isaiah Olsen, Timothy Choi, Amari Beverly, Ian Castillo, Darius Burton, Sophie Jordan, Lea Gutierrez, Nina Brooke, Seanethon Martinez, Geno Villanueva, and Kevin Crum.

And of course, thank you to our players and families for your dedication, energy, and unwavering support. Winter Bowl was an amazing chapter in our athletics season! 💙🐾

What a night! Cadence Park’s International Night brought our campus to life with color, flavor, rhythm, and joy as families gathered to celebrate the incredible diversity of our school community.

With 9 interactive country booths, 3 delicious food trucks, and an array of vibrant cultural performances, the evening offered something for everyone—from hands-on crafts and international games to amazing food and joyful entertainment.

Guests experienced everything from cheerleading and K-Pop dance to traditional South Asian performances, choral singing, and a show-stopping finale by the Youth Lion Dance Team from OAC (Online Arts Charity).

🌟 A heartfelt thank you to our incredible performers: MCs Kiran Chan & Gia Hipolito, Unity Cheer, Nilia Ranjbar, Irvine Patakas, Portola HS K-Pop & C-Pop Club, Pranamya Aditham, Portola HS group Kaban, OSCA’s South Asian Student Association Dancers, Cadence Park MS Choir, and the Youth Lion Dance Team from OAC.

🙏 Deep gratitude to our International Night Chairs, Jubina Bhaijee and Farnoosh Arabian, along with support from Amy Chan, Onechang Lee, Celso Gutierrez-Cueva and the facilities team, Principal Grasso, Anthony Carroll, and Michael Kronenberg—your coordination and care made the night shine.
